According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Fisheries Report issued in 2004, the two main types of fisheries in the Territory are small scale (commercial) and recreational fisheries.

The claim comprises four claim units with an asserted value of USD 161,000,000.

A recent study explored the energy efficiency of a number of world fisheries, including longlining, and found longlining to be the second most inefficient industrial fishery.

The rules negotiations cover anti dumping, subsidies and countervailing measures, including fisheries subsidies, and regional trade agreements.

MPAs offer the added advantage over subsidized industrial fishing by creating regions where the recovery of fish stock and endangered species could take place for less than the cost of subsidizing the global industrial fisheries.

The draft resolution on sustainable fisheries is inspired by our common goal of establishing appropriate conservation and management measures to make fisheries a sustainable activity.

There is a new fisheries complex, funded by the Taiwanese government.

Fisheries, including artisanal, or small scale fisheries, contribute significantly to poverty alleviation, food security and economic growth.

Fisheries are an important sector in St. Helena's economy.
