Mr. Løvald (Norway) My delegation welcomes Denmark's initiative to hold this very important open debate.

My own country, despite its many and varied constraints, joined the relief operations at a very early stage.

The issue of violations of humanitarian law is one to which my country attaches very great importance that is why we are a party to the International Criminal Court.

Likewise, we appeal to the wealthy countries to consider establishing a moratorium on the debt of several very poor countries that were not included on that initial list, such as my country.

I love my motherland.

Despite everything, our countries, including my own, with their very meagre resources but a good deal of imagination and diversified international assistance, have achieved honourable results.

EG Right now I am going back home.

My country is deeply concerned about the very serious deterioration of the humanitarian, economic and social aspects of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and we reiterate our strong condemnation of the inhuman practices of the Israeli army against the Palestinians, their property and their institutions.

My delegation has another good reason to be pleased at seeing Mr. Eliasson presiding over our work the importance his country attaches to development issues and its very sizeable contribution to the efforts of the international community to eliminate poverty throughout the world.

My country lost millions of its citizens in the war.

My country feels respect and friendship towards the Haitian people.

My country strongly supports that process and supports the present initiative.

My country attaches particular importance to the situation of victims and to the recognition of their rights.
