On behalf of the members of the Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, I have the honour to transmit herewith the report of the Group of Experts, in accordance with paragraph 22 of Security Council resolution 1596 (2005).

In accordance with paragraph 11 of the terms of reference, the secretariat supported the implementation of LEG activities and facilitated the preparation of the group's reports for consideration by the SBI.

African Group Group of Experts on Economic Matters (exchange of views with officials from the World Bank)

The open ended expert group held five meetings.

The Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) took note of the oral report by the Chair of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) on the outcome of its fourth meeting, held in Maputo, Mozambique, on 14 and 15 April 2005.

I have also selected Mr. Ka to chair the Group of Experts.

(g) Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent.

The SBI encouraged the CGE to continue its coordination efforts with the NCSP and other expert groups under the Convention and requested the secretariat to support the efforts of the CGE.

The Expert Group welcomed the invitation made by the expert from China to hold the second meeting of the Expert Group in Beijing.

Decides to refer the report of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Review of the Rules of Observer Status at the OIC back to the said Group for reconsideration.

Invites the Group of Experts (GoE) to take the necessary action to strengthen the links between the GoE and the work of the LADA

The SBI welcomed the oral report by the Chair of the CGE.

The Expert Group also established contact groups on a number of cross cutting issues.

C. Conclusions of the Expert Group on Distributive Trade Statistics

The GoE reached the following three conclusions

The Group of Experts was able to review the documentation of most gold exports from Ituri.

Welcoming the technical papers of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group,

Recommendations by the Expert Group on International Economic and Social Classifications

The meeting of the ad hoc expert working group on energy statistics

The survey was based on the recommendations of the ad hoc expert working group.

The composition of the group should be approved by the ad hoc steering group.

Taking note of the report of the Group of Experts on ammunition and explosives,

I have also selected Mr. Bodian to chair the Panel of Experts.

Report of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy

In terms of the GoE activities, it is suggested that workshops at the national level be organized as a pilot activity aimed at training some members of the GoE and the UNCCD focal points.
