Providing advice and information to individual States Parties on implementation matters continued to be a central feature of the work of the ISU.

We welcome the coordinated activities aimed at supporting the effective implementation of the Convention and the urgent measures for Africa.

This involved the ISU developing a comprehensive information gathering tool for these States Parties to use and saw the ISU provide substantive and organizational support to two regional conferences.

The Income and Employment Support Act, which came into force in November 2004 and replaced the Social Assistance Act (1977), provides enabling legislation that will facilitate the integration of employment interventions with the Income Support Program.

The support of donor countries has been steadily increasing, reflecting growing confidence in effective programme delivery.

Support to Implementation (SIMP) focuses on supporting the efforts undertaken by non Annex I Parties, fostering the integration of sustainable development and climate change priorities.

The workload of the ISU increased dramatically in response to the States Parties' robust preparations for the First Review Conference.

The review concluded that supporting improvements in practice would require a clear evaluation policy, one that establishes principles, implementation methods and procedures for quality assurance.

The ISU continued to collect a large number of pertinent documents for the Convention's Documentation Centre, which is maintained by the ISU as part of its mandate.

As mentioned above, consultations will also take place between the Government and UNDP to discuss specific measures to support the further expansion of the national execution modality.
