(d) Comprehensive implementation of and follow up to the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action report of the Third Committee (A 60 509 Add.4)

During the preparatory segment of the meeting, the parties will hear a report by the President of the Implementation Committee, and will be expected to consider how to forward the agreed recommendations of the Implementation Committee to the meeting of the Parties.

Another submission stressed the need that for the efficiency of the implementation review process to be improved by having the intersessional CRIC meetings centred on those thematic approaches , which are more relevant to that foster a swifter implementation of the UNCCD.

Requests the Secretary General of the OIC to follow up on the prompt implementation of this resolution and to report thereon to the Member States.

This practice has also enabled the Secretariat to schedule the meetings of the Implementation Committee before or even after the meetings of the Open ended Working Group, as the report of the Implementation Committee does not have to be considered by the Meeting of the Parties until later in the year.

The report of the Secretary General on the coordinated implementation of the Habitat Agenda (Council decision 2004 300) will be submitted only to the General Assembly, at its sixtieth session (Assembly resolution 59 239).

We have noted the implementation of the various reform proposals, as contained in the Secretary General's 2002 report entitled Strengthening the United Nations an agenda for further change (A 57 387).

The report of the Secretary General on progress in implementation and international support for NEPAD (A 60 178) rightly calls attention to the challenges and constraints in its implementation.

Pursuant to decision 8 COP.4, all other affected developing country Parties are expected to complete their programmes by the end of 2005.

He observed that proposals contained in the report of the Secretary General to establish a peer review mechanism and a development cooperation forum could help to realign the United Nations system in support of implementation.
