The Committee notes the recent measures adopted by the federal Government, including the cultural diversity programme and Civil Code Law 10.406 02, which regulates the citizenship of the Brazilian Indian, since it abolishes the previous status of being a relatively incapable citizen.

During 2005 the two secretariats have collaborated on work programme elements relating to the status and trends of biodiversity in dry and sub humid lands and the development of criteria and indicators for specific areas of value.

It will present targets for forests to the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, which will in turn present them to the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity for inclusion in the programme of work of the Convention.
