We concur with the Secretary General's inclusive and comprehensive approach towards addressing the current problems of Africa.

The non permanent nature of their mandates and the constant renewal of the Council enables the Council to draw on innovative approaches, perspectives and viewpoints that can enrich the debate and prevent it from taking place in a closed club .

Secondly, the approach provided for in draft resolution A 59 L.68 makes the Council more accountable to the Member States.

All are built on a business model approach to management rather than on one that is indigenous to the public sector.

Iceland fully subscribes to such an approach, which forms the basis of our own marine strategy, issued last year.

I encourage the Council to regularly invite the Director General of IAEA and the Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to brief the Council on the status of safeguards and verification processes.

In his report the Secretary General addresses interconnected challenges and threats and suggests that a piecemeal, fragmented approach will not bring about the required solutions.
