43. Welcomes the progress made by the International Labour Organization in the preparation of a consolidated maritime labour convention

The representative of ILO informed the meeting about progress in the development of the consolidated maritime labour convention and a convention and recommendation concerning work in the fishing sector.

51. Welcomes the adoption of the consolidated Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, by the International Labour Conference on 23 February 2006, and encourages States to become parties to that Convention

Unfortunately, Iceland's ideas about GMA, including, in particular, as regards its scope, and those of States that have ambitions for GMA well beyond what Iceland considers appropriate, have so far not been reconcilable.

With regard to the programme of work and budget for 2006, the representative of the secretariat recalled that the budget as approved by the Conference in decision RC 1 17 was an indicative budget which needed updating.

States that are not States Parties but that have accepted the invitation to take part in the meeting would share in the costs to the extent of their respective rates of assessment under the United Nations scale of assessments.

Subject to the States Parties' approval of the estimated costs and cost sharing formula, assessment notices will be prepared based on the overall estimated costs and applicable cost sharing formula.
