As the Council's report attests, both the volume and the scope of the Council's activities continue to increase.

Among the Council's Decade related initiatives are

More often, the reason relates to the time taken up by council activities.

Therefore, if there is to be genuine Council reform, measures should be taken to remove all elements of partiality from the Council's activities and to expand the Council.

Participation in Conferences and Other Activities of the Economic and Social Council and bodies of the United Nations

The Board recommends that UNHCR headquarters review annually the New York Office's activities, outputs and plans.

In decision IDB.1 Dec.29, Member States were requested to inform the Board on their activities related to the work of the Organization when reviewing the annual report on its activities.

In the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, the so called United Nations Command, which has existed for more than half a century, is a typical product of the partiality observed in the Council's activities.

Definition of renewable energy the Executive Board agreed to draw up an indicative list of energy sources eligible project activities,1 as proposed in the attachment to annex 2 of the annotated agenda of its third meeting.2 In drawing up such a list, the Board shall consider recognized classifications of renewable energy technologies sources and take into account experience based on completed or ongoing small scale projects in relevant fields.

Members of the Council took note with satisfaction of the resumption of the activities of the Government of National Reconciliation in accordance with the commitments made at the Accra III high level meeting of 29 and 30 July 2004.

b Paragraphs 8 to 10 of the simplified modalities and procedures for small scale CDM project activities allow for project participants to submit a new small scale project activity category or revisions to a methodology to the Executive Board for consideration and amendment of appendix B by the Executive Board, as appropriate.

We continue to believe that the increasing volume and scope of the Council's activities prompt us to recognize the need to adapt the Security Council's membership in both its permanent and non permanent categories, as well at its methods of work, including the right to the veto, in order that the Council may efficiently address the geopolitical realities of today's world.
