A central challenge to be addressed between now and mid August remains improving the security situation and creating conditions that will be conducive to the success of the disengagement plan.

We hope the disengagement plan from Gaza that we have just carried out will alter for the better the security environment and significantly reduce the existential threats Israel is facing today.

(a) To monitor and verify lines of disengagement

The plan for disengagement and withdrawal from Gaza was an initial step that should be followed by further steps on the basis of the road map and the vision of the two State solution.

The success of Israeli disengagement is of paramount importance.

Short term needs associated with the disengagement plan are likely to include the pre positioning of supplies, food commodities and preparedness of emergency services, in anticipation of potential political or security contingencies during and immediately after Israeli withdrawal.

The question, of course, is what will happen after the Gaza disengagement.
