The present report informs the Board of Trustees of the activities of UNIDIR during the period August 2004 to July 2005 and the planned programme for 2006 and beyond.

Through the aforementioned report of the Director of UNIDIR, the Board of Trustees recommended continuation of a subvention from the United Nations regular budget. Such a subvention is important for ensuring the independence of the Institute.

At its present session, the Working Group, will have before it the report of the Board of Trustees to the Working Group, which contains information on the activities of the Trust Fund (E CN.4 Sub.2 AC.2 2005 5).

The foundation, based in Seattle, Washington, is controlled by its three trustees Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.

Trustees hold the assets on trust until the beneficiary is 18 in England and Wales, or 16 in Scotland.

Detailed information can be found in the report of the tenth session of the Board of Trustees to the thirtieth session of the Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery (E CN.4 Sub.2 AC.2 2005 5 and Corr.1).

The report was considered and approved for submission to the General Assembly by the Board of Trustees of the Institute at the forty fifth session of the Secretary General's Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, held from 29 June to 1 July 2005.

The chairpersons encouraged the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund to continue discussions on ways to deepen their cooperation.

The following paragraphs provide information on action taken by the secretariat and the Board of Trustees to implement those recommendations.
