We hope this exercise will set the tone for our future work for, and in, the 2006 preparatory and review conferences.

We would like to reiterate our support for the decisions and the resolution adopted at the 1995 NPT Review and Extension Conference and for the Final Document of the 2000 NPT Review Conference.

As I begin a new term of office at the Agency, this is also a time for me to review our progress and renew our vision.

Today we are meeting here to commemorate that decision and to review our actions, celebrate our progress and share our concerns.

However, the review has also revealed some trends that are cause for anxiety, and therefore worthy of our attention.
