The Special Rapporteur is now pleased to transmit to the Commission his fourth annual thematic report, pursuant to Commission resolution 2004 62, which deals with the problems faced by indigenous peoples in education systems, including problems of access and equity.

One representative presented information about a regional seminar on illicit trafficking by sea that had been held in Japan in 2004, pursuant to Commission resolution 46 3.

The United Nations has continued its efforts to establish the international independent investigation commission to look into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri, pursuant to resolution 1595 (2005).

Mr. Mehlis recommends, pursuant to paragraph 8 of resolution 1636 (2005), that the mandate of the Commission be extended for a period of six months to enable the investigation to continue.

The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 59 206 of 20 December 2004 no resolution was adopted by the Commission on Human Rights in 2005.
