While asylum claims are normally dealt with by the Migration Board and, in turn, the Aliens Appeals Board, under certain circumstances either body may refer the case to the Government, while appending its own opinion.

All of their appeals concerning the issuance of visas are pending before the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

During the period under review, there was a significant increase in the workload of the Appeals Chamber, with appeals of judgement in 10 cases, as well as 28 interlocutory appeals and 1 motion for review under consideration.

Appeals by Members for a change of assessments

In the Appeals Chamber four judgements were delivered.

We continue to make appeals to that end.

Several delegations cited the risk of overlap between the functions of the monitoring body and those of the Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances, particularly with regard to the consideration of urgent appeals, on site visits and individual communications.
