How to use it

The particle لَمْ is used before a past‑tense verb to negate it, meaning “did not”. It is followed by a verb in the jussive mood.

لَمْ يَذْهَبْ إِلَى المَدْرَسَةِ

lam yaḏhab ilā al-madrasati

He did not go to school
لَمْ نَرَ الفِيلَةَ بَعْدُ

lam nar al-fīlata baʿdu

We have not seen the elephant yet
لَمْ تَكُنِ السَّاعَةُ سَبْعًا

lam takun al-sāʿatu sabʿan
