Multi stakeholder dialogue

Major groups stress the value of the multi stakeholder dialogue in promoting cooperation and consensus.

It has been suggested that the multi stakeholder dialogue of a session be focused on seeking multi stakeholder perspectives on the specific agenda items of that session.

At its first session in 2001, the Forum had noted the value of multi stakeholder dialogues in advancing the work of the Forum.

C. Participation, Conflict and Multi Stakeholder Processes

CPF members state that the multi stakeholder dialogue at sessions of the Forum and the participation of civil society in intersessional activities have been beneficial.

The proposals emanating from the non governmental organization perspective encompassed a more dynamic set up for dialogue which included at its core an attempt to report and debate on issues related to implementation rather than the endless monologues in which the Forum had engaged owing to lack of reporting commitments.

The subcommittee operates on the principle of synergy from multi stakeholders partnerships.

Most non governmental organizations involved in the international forest policy debate think that multi stakeholder dialogues are inappropriate vehicles through which to channel civil society's views.

The present note has been prepared to facilitate the multi stakeholder dialogue at the fifth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests.

Through extensive consultation and collaboration, stakeholders are increasingly involved in the planning of multi stakeholder dialogues and, through the processes of joint planning, have established strong cooperative relationships within the group.

There is a need for enabling legislation on multi stakeholder processes that sets umbrella goals, leaving the specific implementation to lower levels.

However, we do think that a dialogue between all relevant stakeholders of a peace process can contribute to reducing those inevitable tensions.

Structures for coordination between stakeholders

Welcoming the support of Member States for the Financing for Development Office of the Secretariat for organizing multi stakeholder consultations within its mandate, and in accordance with resolution 58 230,

Welcoming in this regard the participation of civil society and private sector entities in the multi stakeholder consultations on development finance issues, whose findings were presented at the High level Dialogue on Financing for Development held in New York on 27 and 28 June 2005,

Affirming the importance of sustaining the process of engaging all stakeholders in the interreligious, intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue within the appropriate initiatives at the various levels,

Members of the group have also participated in ongoing multi stakeholder consultations on the issue organized by the World Economic Forum as part of the financing for development process.

Pursuant to its resolution 1 1, the Forum holds a multi stakeholder dialogue as a common element of every session.

In this context, attention should be drawn to the multi stakeholder partnerships of the Global ePolicy Resource Network, the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development, and the UNCTAD E Tourism Initiative.

Stakeholders

The Forum should ensure the opportunity to receive and consider inputs from representatives of major groups as identified in Agenda 21, in particular through the organization of multi stakeholder dialogues.

In some countries, the process of stakeholder dialogue is relatively new and still evolving.

(c) Promote innovative funding mechanisms and multi stakeholder arrangements on all levels, on a voluntary basis, including the engagement of sports organizations, civil society, athletes and the private sector

The third segment of the report is concerned with the actions of the private sector to facilitate development, looking at multi stakeholder partnerships, networks and business opportunities to provide goods and services to the poor.

Partnerships among stakeholders will be pursued in support of implementation.

We hope that instead of scheduling a vote, you will resume the process of dialogue and consultations that you had initiated between the group of four and Uniting for Consensus and that you will include the African Union and other stakeholders in such a dialogue.

B. Stakeholder involvement

The dialogue could also contribute to the building and sustenance of stakeholders' interest in the production and dissemination of statistics and the development of a national statistical capacity.

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has promoted the economic empowerment of rural women through multi stakeholder dialogues and capacity building.

Major groups are providing discussion papers and the Bureau for the fifth session of the Forum has decided to integrate the multi stakeholder dialogue into the plenary and working group meetings, as well as into the high level segment of the session.

Otherwise, the global development agenda could lose its relevance, and thus its grip on stakeholders.
