I take this opportunity today to reiterate the call made by my President during the High level Plenary Meeting to further strengthen cooperation and linkages between the United Nations and countries of the Pacific, like mine.

I take this opportunity to recall that Serbia and Montenegro fully supported the preparatory processes of the High level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly at its sixtieth session, scheduled to take place in September.

I take the opportunity of my visit to the Security Council to call upon, and urge, the international community to act speedily to help us with the enormous tasks of the voluntary return, reintegration and rehabilitation of returning refugees and internally displaced persons.

In my national capacity, I, too, wish to thank Mr. Alan Doss for presenting the report of the Secretary General (S 2005 186), and I take this opportunity to welcome the participation of the Secretary General in this important meeting of the Security Council.

I also take this opportunity to welcome the other ministers who are present here at this debate and to express my utmost appreciation to Ambassador César Mayoral of Argentina for the skill with which he discharged his duties as President of the Council for January.

I would also take this opportunity to assure you of Australia's continuing support for the important work of your Committee and our commitment to maintaining a leadership position in the Asia Pacific region in support of cooperative counter terrorism efforts at the bilateral, regional and global levels.

I therefore seize this opportunity to urge creditor nations to help us by cancelling Iraqi debt or loans. That debt was accumulated under the corrupt policies of the previous regime and the Iraqi people have had no hand in it.
