The resources of the Office also include the provision for the post of the Deputy Secretary General.

The post of the Assistant Secretary General was redeployed to the Office of the Chef de Cabinet with a functional title of Deputy Chef de Cabinet to strengthen that Office in light of the increasing workload.

Ms. Mabutas (Director of the Office of the Under Secretary General for Management) recalled that the Accountability Panel had been established in 2002 and was chaired by the Deputy Secretary General.

The Mission is headed by the Special Representative of the Secretary General at the Under Secretary General level assisted by a Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General and a Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General (Resident Coordinator Humanitarian Coordinator) at the Assistant Secretary General level.

Since the post of Deputy to the Under Secretary General had only just been filled, he would prefer to defer commenting on it until the sixty first session.

Let me thank Under Secretary General Jan Egeland and Mr. Jacques Forster, Vice President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, for their informative briefings.

I have already mentioned the Secretary General of the Conference, Mr. Sergei Ordzhonikidze, and I also mentioned specifically the Deputy Secretary General of the Conference, Mr. Enrique Román Morey, for their valuable assistance and support, which certainly facilitated discharging my duties as President.

As shown in the organization chart in the Secretary General's report (A 59 534 Add.4), the Office will be headed by a Special Representative of the Secretary General at the Assistant Secretary General level, supported by a Deputy Special Representative (D 1).

In July 2005, the Deputy Secretary General chaired the first organizational meeting of the Management Performance Board, which conducted a review of existing sources of managerial performance data.

Mr. Saha (Vice Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions) said that the Advisory Committee, too, had questioned the use of the term border demarcation in the Secretary General's report.

Pending completion of the ongoing recruitment process with respect to his immediate support staff, the Under Secretary General has been supported by a deputy and two professional assistants under temporary arrangements.

We thank Mr. Alan Doss for introducing the report of the Secretary General (S 2005 186), and we welcome Mr. Aziz Pahad, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa, and his delegation.

The results of the review of the level of the post of the Deputy to the Under Secretary General should be included in the comprehensive implementation report, and a review of the post of the head of the Division of Safety and Security Services should also be conducted in that context.

ECA management stated that since the appointment of the Acting Deputy Executive Secretary, arrangements have been made to re establish the operational activities of the Coordination Unit under the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary.
