Debt problems are acute among the poorest countries, particularly those in Africa.

For the most part, countries in the latter category of debt crisis, concentrated in Africa, remain mired in debt problems.

To be sure, a huge, sustained burst of growth could still cure all of Europe s debt problems as it would anyone s.

UNCTAD had many times pointed to the problems of debt ridden developing countries and had made its contribution to the essential general discussion on the ensuing problems.

Other peripheral countries already have Greek style problems of debt sustainability and eroded competitiveness.

For the Club Med members of the euro zone Italy, Spain, Greece, and Portugal public debt problems come on top of a loss of international competitiveness.

However, despite persistent national and international efforts, too many countries still face acute debt servicing problems.

Economic growth is hampered by external debt problems, by the decrease in external resource flows, by sharply declining terms of trade and by mounting barriers to market access.
