The draft resolution, in paragraph 2, endorses the outcome of the International Meeting, as embodied in the Mauritius Declaration and the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.

The social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities of the small island developing States were re emphasized, and donor support was sought to further implement the agreed international programme for small island developing States.

I reaffirm their calls here once again, and stress the urgent need for the international community to fully and effectively implement the Mauritius Strategy for the further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.

Activities carried out under the subprogramme would be in support of the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Programme of Action adopted by the International Conference on Population and Development and key actions for the further implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development adopted at the special session of the General Assembly.

The European Union would like to take this opportunity warmly to welcome the formal endorsement by the General Assembly of the Mauritius Declaration and the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.
