(b) Welcomes the strengthening of the peer review mechanism by the adoption of a revised administrative decision on peer review

It was explained that UNCTAD interacted and cooperated with OECD at different levels.

To date, 23 African countries have agreed to participate in the peer review process.

We note that 23 countries have signed on to the African Peer Review Mechanism, and the Peer Review Panel has completed country reviews for Ghana and Rwanda and presented its report to the African Peer Review Forum in Abuja for discussion.

This would affect not just the treaties endowed with a monitoring body but the entire collection of human rights instruments, and it is precisely the overall level of commitment that must be considered in any new peer review system.

It was also suggested that peer review might be one way to monitor follow up activities.

The peer review mechanism would complement but would not replace reporting procedures under human rights treaties.

The peer review would help avoid, to the extent possible, the politicization and selectivity that are hallmarks of the Commission's existing system.

It should touch upon the entire spectrum of human rights, namely, civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

The annual report of the OHCHR, which should include the recommendations of special procedures, could be used as part of a peer review system in the Human Rights Council.

Work was carried out on law and land review in three regions and lessons learned from peer reviewed best practices were fed into the campaign.

In addition to the proposed peer review outlined above, the Human Rights Council should also fulfil the following functions

The African Peer Review Mechanism enables each African country to assess the progress it is making towards the achievement of Africa's shared goals.

The Board notes that no peer reviews had been performed or planned by May 2005.

The peer review process, as agreed by Africans, has been designed by Africans themselves and is therefore, also African owned.

Consistent with our Government's commitment to a people driven process of progressive change, South Africa supports the inclusive approach of the conclusions of the peer review process.

Support was expressed for a system of peer review among special procedures mandate holders, which could be set up following consultation with the Coordination Committee.

This is especially important, given that peer review will conclude with a programme of action to address whatever shortfalls are identified by the review.

The findings of the peer reviews of the Human Rights Council would help the international community better provide technical assistance and policy advice.

13. Recognizes that the peer review mechanism and the collection and submission of statistical data are critical monitoring tools, essential for effective implementation of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, and in this respect

The Human Rights Council will need to ensure that it develops a system of peer review that is fair, transparent and workable, whereby States are reviewed against the same criteria.

The authority has received the International Regulatory Review Team and Radiation Safety Infrastructure Appraisal international peer review missions, and has an aggressive action plan to address the recommendations of these missions.

Particular focus has been made on the improvement of statistical reporting, data assessment and on the continued implementation of peer review, enhancing cooperation with international organizations, representatives of industry and civil society.

Most scientific and scholarly journals, and many academic and scholarly books, though not all, are based on some form of peer review or editorial refereeing to qualify texts for publication.

The latter are used more frequently by heterosexual couples than same sex couples.

UN Habitat is a strong and committed advocate for peer learning and problem solving.

Governments will become more accountable if incentives for reducing corruption and repression and for strengthening political institutions through greater public knowledge and participation in the political process were provided under an African led peer review process.

We feel that there is an urgent need to activate the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in order to help Africa to strengthen democracy, good governance and respect for human rights, and Egypt has therefore made a voluntary contribution of 1 million to the APRM Trust Fund, in addition to its regular annual contribution of 100,000.

These findings suggest that peer support interventions have the potential to be effective components of depression care, and they support the inclusion of peer support in recovery oriented mental health treatment.

That's true even amongst peers.

15. Welcomes the peer review system established by the Unit, and decides that if, in the opinion of the majority of the inspectors, the report in question does not meet the established quality standards, the Chair shall reflect such views and the reasons therefor in the introduction to the report

Comment by the Administration. UNICEF continues to share relevant ICT best practices with other organizations of the United Nations system, but no peer reviews have been performed or planned.

Peer pressure now matters, too.

(g) To take measures to ensure that all those who work with and for children protect children from bullying and implement preventive and anti bullying policies

In addition to existing functions and responsibilities of the Commission under Economic and Social Council resolutions 1235 (XLII) and 1503 (XLVIII), the Human Rights Council would consider the situation of all human rights in all countries based on the above peer review system.

(k) To take measures to ensure that all those who work with and for children protect children from bullying and implement preventive and anti bullying policies

The African Peer Mechanism is, therefore, enabling rather than prescriptive, specifying objectives and standards and providing indicative definitions of criteria and examples of indicators so as to ensure broad coherence at the country level and uniformity at the continental level.

Peer review would be a process whereby States voluntarily enter into discussion regarding human rights issues in their respective countries, and would be based on the obligations and responsibilities to promote and protect those rights arising under the Charger and as given expression in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Peer mentoring is also used in the workplace as a means of orienting new employees.

(a) Welcomes the important progress made in the implementation of the peer review mechanism in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, encourages all remaining participants to receive voluntary review visits, and notes with appreciation the intention of the Kimberley Process to commence a second round of review visits in 2007

While this capacity has attained an unhealthy degree of politicization which the proposed peer review function of the Human Rights Council should address the ability to address serious situations must be retained and revived.

Peer pressure is influence on a peer group, observers or individual exerts that encourages others to change their attitudes, values, or behaviors to conform to groups.

The Third Wave experiment is an example of risk behavior in authoritarian peer pressure situations.
