In response to a request by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice, at its twentieth session, the secretariat, in cooperation with the Expert Group on Technology Transfer organized a seminar on the development and transfer of environmentally sound technologies for adaptation to climate change from 14 16 June 2005, in Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago.

This technical guidance has been prepared building on the approach of the technical guidance already recommended, by decision 20 CP.9, for adoption by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP MOP).

It should be considered in conjunction with document FCCC SBI 2005 8 Add.1, which provides details of the work programme and resource requirements, and with document FCCC SBI 2005 8 Add.2, which describes the supplementary activities that the secretariat plans to undertake and details the resources required therefore.

UNIDO assists the Governments that are signatories to the Protocol to comply with the requirements of both the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol.

Another recent instrument in the same direction is the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

In doing so, the UNFCCC can set an example to be followed by other United Nations bodies and international organizations.

With regard to tobacco control, Syria ratified the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in 2003.

The Government committed itself to engaging with UNMIK in reporting to the Council of Europe under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

After describing previous work on technologies for adaptation to climate change, he said that defining these technologies is difficult, and suggested that an operational definition might be the application of technology in order to reduce the vulnerability, or enhance the resilience, of a natural or human system to the impacts of climate change .

Myanmar became a party to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in October 2003, and it has imposed restrictions on tobacco advertising and marketing.

These agreements are based on the model United Nations conference agreement and ensure that the detailed regime of privileges and immunities in the General Convention is applicable to all who attend meetings under the auspices of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol.
