We believe, therefore, that more must be done to achieve greater participation and effective contributions by women in developing and implementing post conflict strategies and programmes.

Moreover, in accordance with paragraph 3 of resolution 59 95, on improving the effectiveness of methods of work of the First Committee, Member States are, inter alia, invited to consider the possibility of submitting draft decisions.

Efforts to achieve the MDGs need to go hand in hand with a bold reform of the United Nations and an improvement in the functioning of its bodies, if we wish to strengthen the overall system and make it more effective and more credible.

We wish to establish the best possible system of collective security and therefore we support a democratic reform of the Security Council that will ensure greater representativity, transparency and true accountability, in the interest of the efficiency of the Council's work.

The challenge ahead is to ensure effective follow up to the policy decisions on water, sanitation and human settlements and to continue refining the methods of work of the Commission with a view to further enhancing its impact on implementation.
