At the outset I should like to make some opening remarks as Norway assumes the presidency of the Conference.

At the outset, allow me to congratulate you on the assumption of the presidency of the Conference at the beginning of our session.

I have been advocating that the term of the CD presidency is too short to ensure that the Conference on Disarmament is effectively managed.

Let me stress that you as well as incoming CD Presidents may rely on our full support in the process of fulfilling your difficult task.

In accordance with Rule 9 of the Rules of Procedure, the following Member States assumed successively the Presidency of the Conference the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan and Peru.

Almost by coincidence, one of the next sessions at the conference was led by Athenahealth, announcing its planned acquisition of Epocrates!

Bernanke, who took over at the Fed in 2006, launched his policy career in 1999 with a brilliant paper presented to the same Jackson Hole conference.

This was particularly apparent during the German presidency of the Conference in 2002, when he contributed to placing the so called A 5 proposal for a programme of work on the table.

Finland served as President of the Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the CTBT that was convened by the Secretary General of the United Nations on 3 5 September 2003 in Vienna.

It is no coincidence that George W. Bush s and Putin s disastrous presidencies were cotemporaneous.

The Conference met under the Chairmanship of Massoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and undertook an extensive and rich discussion on a variety of themes related to environment, peace and dialogue.

A preparatory commission was initiated by the League in 1925 by 1931, there was sufficient support to hold a conference, which duly began under the chairmanship of former British Foreign Secretary Arthur Henderson.

During the same period, there have been 10 South Korean presidents and 11 US presidents.

As this is indeed the first time it has been my privilege to take part in this important forum, I would first of all like to congratulate you on taking the Chair of this Conference and express my support and the support of my delegation for your efforts directed at the adoption of a programme of work which will be satisfactory for all members.

At the regional level, the European Conference and Exchange Forum about Volunteering (Eurofestation 2004), held in 2004 in the Netherlands during that country's presidency of the European Union, was attended by representatives from a broad range of stakeholders in volunteerism.

None of the women was elected to be member of the Presidency BiH at the post war elections (1996 2000), neither for the president co president of FBiH, nor for entity Prime Minister.

Before concluding, Sir, I would like to express the appreciation of the Conference presidency for the cooperation and spirit of flexibility shown by all delegations in Geneva, which made possible the timely adoption of the final report of the Conference on Disarmament (A 60 27).

By the same token, in our capacity as Chair of the African Union, Nigeria also wishes to congratulate Mr. ElBaradei, an illustrious son of Africa, on his recent re election by the IAEA Board to a third term in office and his endorsement by the General Conference.
