The results of the survey will be one of the inputs to the CGE report to the SBI at its twenty fourth session on ways to improve access to financial and technical support.

The CGE also ensures that representatives of other expert groups take part in the hands on training workshops it has organized.

Scope of the note This note contains the report on the fourth meeting of the CGE under its revised guidelines held in Maputo, Mozambique, on 14 and 15 April 2005.

The advantages of mentorships are that hands on training over a period of several months can be provided and, during that period, a much clearer picture can be obtained of local obstacles to enhanced international legal cooperation.

From the operational point of view, the activities carried out cover (i) trans border conservation of resources and (ii) communal management of natural resources, mainly in west and east Africa.

That is already being done in practice.

The SCA mission is to build a new generation of conservation managers by inspiring lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging high school and college age volunteers in hands on service to the land.

Training represented 61 per cent of the preventive activities, with 2,134 staff reached.

At the twenty fifth meeting of the Open ended Working Group, the Parties considered both the report of the expert workshop and the draft terms of reference that had been prepared by the Secretariat for the study noted above.

These activities address the recommendation of the Inter Agency Security Management Network that designated officials be provided with mandatory security training and briefings prior to their assignment.

Al Qaida manuals and publicly available information, including on the Internet, offer some degree of theoretical guidance, while practical training was provided in Afghan camps prior to 2001.

The SBI welcomed the continuing efforts of the CGE to collaborate with other expert groups under the Convention by soliciting inputs to the development of hands on training materials.

The European Union welcomed the commitment by the Administration to establish an integrated training service. It trusted that that initiative would result in the adoption of a more strategic approach in terms of both the types of training offered and the resources requested for those activities.
