On the basis of this assessment, I would like to offer as possible remedies a few suggestions relating to efforts that I have been pursuing in recent months despite my limited resources.

The new global Evaluation Committee adopted a plan of action to strengthen the evaluation function throughout UNICEF.

Governments also agreed to pursue evaluation studies based on the evaluation framework where appropriate.

The objective of the evaluation is to test the level of implementation of results based management in peacekeeping operations and to make recommendations on how to adapt results based management principles, methodology and techniques to the specific needs of those operations.

These norms and standards are now being applied in self assessments of each agency's evaluation activities.
