Report on the Vanuatu Peace Process. Report prepared for the Department of Women's Affairs and UNIFEM.

Currently, the Department is in the process of developing a paperless e Customs system as outlined in the Convention.

The Department of Peacekeeping Operations and United Nations agencies, programmes and funds, as core stakeholders, are involved in this process.

Although the Department did not participate in assessment missions for Burundi, it has been integrated into the Headquarters planning process.

12. Reaffirms the role of the Committee on Information in guiding the process of restructuring the Department of Public Information, and therefore invites the Committee on Information to engage actively in the process

His delegation supported the current process of restructuring the Department and hoped that the new operating model would contribute to the effective application of the strategic goals of the United Nations reform process.

In addition, the Secretariat reported that by making such a mechanism an integral part of the process, including a dedicated team within the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the process would be given more weight.

Such action would allow finance ministries (e.g., the US Department of the Treasury) a role in the process now reserved for central banks.

In order to streamline this process further, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Management are actively reviewing their respective information needs with the intent of consolidating vendor monitoring into one comprehensive tool satisfying all stakeholders.

The Department has also made it a priority to ensure that civil society is informed of the ongoing process of revitalization and reform of the United Nations and, where possible, is engaged in that process.

Within the Ministry of Education, the establishment of the Department for Continuing Education, Literacy and Diversity (SECAD) was a step forward in this process.

In addition, the scope and complexity of current peacekeeping operations had arguably overtaken the Brahimi process that process had been predicated on launching one large mission a year, whereas in 2004 alone the Department had had to establish four.

As Director of the International Monetary Fund s African Department, I witnessed the historic completion point of the process in Washington, DC, alongside my colleagues from the World Bank.

Mr. Amolo (Kenya) said that his delegation supported the efforts of the Department of Safety and Security and acknowledged that it was still in the process of development.

The Department for International Development of the United Kingdom appointed a senior gender and rights adviser in January 2004 to ensure that this process is taken forwards effectively.

In terms of seniority there was one female Head of Department, four male Heads of Department, two female Assistant Heads of Department and three male Assistant Heads of Department.

The training capacity comprises four departments the Training Department Infantry at Arlon, the Training Department Armour Cavalry at Leopoldsburg, the Training Department Artillery at Brasschaat and the Training Department Engineers at Namur.

The Department of Political Affairs, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Safety and Security are working to address those challenges.

On a visit to Guantánamo, Department of Defense spokesman Joe DellaVedova told me that a series of panels are reviewing the detainees files, a process that will take until this year s end.

Most significantly in institutional terms, an internal review process and extensive discussions with Member States resulted in the unification of United Nations security functions within a new Department of Safety and Security.
