Child abduction and trafficking in children were also a grave problem.

These measures contribute to tackling the challenge of the abduction of children of concern to UNHCR. In 1999, following the large scale abduction of Dinka women and children from Bahr al Ghazal by the Baggara tribes of South Darfur and West Kordofan, and amidst mounting international pressure for an immediate government response, the Government of the Sudan established the Committee for the Eradication of the Abduction of Women and Children (CEAWAC).
