3. Each State Party shall afford appropriate assistance to migrants whose lives or safety are endangered by reason of being the object of conduct set forth in article 6 of this Protocol.

We are particularly pleased that leaders have recognized the need to conclude, during this session, negotiations on the draft protocol to the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel.

Provision for implementing the Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf in the domestic laws will be made in due course.

We attach great importance to the value of the Optional Protocol in enhancing and expanding protection for United Nations and associated personnel, whose safety is threatened daily by a variety of dangers.

The President We have reason to be proud and pleased that the General Assembly has now adopted the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel.

The Secretary General I congratulate the General Assembly on the important step it has taken in adopting the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel.

He informed the meeting that a revised code of safety for fishermen and fishing vessels had been adopted this year and also suggested that States should be asked to explain why they had not become parties to the Protocol to the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels.

Further contributions would be made when the proposed amendments to the 1988 Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation and the 1988 Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms and the Continental Shelf were adopted and entered into force.

I am therefore happy to state that the draft resolution contains in its annex the text of the draft Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel.

First, it was her delegation's understanding that both the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel and the draft optional protocol would not apply in situations governed by international humanitarian law.
