She noted that some provisions of the Constitution still needed revision in order to fully eliminate discrimination against women.

Under Recommendation No. 4, an important suggestion was made to prioritize the revision of disciminatory provisions in the Penal Code.

Ms. Cinar (Turkey) said that the 2002 revision of both the Citizenship Act and article 66 of the Constitution had done away with discriminatory provisions.

Turning to the constitutional decision annulling provisions of domestic law that were incompatible with the Covenant, he asked whether those domestic provisions had been invalidated immediately on the adoption of that decision, or whether they were undergoing revision.

This revision is using a unique approach.

The first questionnaire, sent out in 2001, solicited general proposals for the CPC revision to develop a better understanding of countries' needs in the revision process.
