Serbia became a constituent republic within the SFRY known as the Socialist Republic of Serbia, and had a republic branch of the federal communist party, the League of Communists of Serbia.

Serbia and Montenegro remained together as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY).

By territory and population, it was the second largest republic in Yugoslavia, after the Socialist Republic of Serbia.

The Committee welcomes the frank and constructive dialogue with the delegation of the State party, which included representatives from the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Montenegro and the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.

Serbia and Montenegro and the Federal Republic of Germany concluded a bilateral Readmission Agreement.

Following the adoption of the Constitutional Charter of Serbia and Montenegro by the Assembly of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on 4 February 2003, the name of the State of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was changed to Serbia and Montenegro .

The current border between Serbia and Croatia was defined in 1945 by a Yugoslav federal government commission which assigned areas with a majority Serb population to the Socialist Republic of Serbia and those with a Croatian majority to the Socialist Republic of Croatia.

We welcome and support the participation in today's meeting of the President of the Coordination Centre of Serbia and Montenegro and of the Republic of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija, Mr. Nebojsa Covic.

As noted above, however, the previous Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (since renamed Serbia and Montenegro) repeatedly claimed to represent the former Yugoslavia.

During these years, the party endorsed a union and close relations with Serbia (its sole partner in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1992).

Statements were made in the exercise of the right of reply by the representatives of Cyprus, Zimbabwe, Serbia and Montenegro, Cuba, the Czech Republic and Albania.

After the adoption of the draft resolution, statements were made by the representatives of the United States, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Serbia and Montenegro.
