The Law on protection from ionizing radiation and radiation related security,

The Law on Protection of Ionizing Radiation and Radiation Security was adopted in 1999.

This law established an administrative unit for protection from ionizing radiation and radiation security within the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as the centre for protection from ionizing radiation, which is based with the Public Health Office.

Its radiation risk assessments provide the scientific foundation used by the International Commission on Radiological Protection in developing its recommendations for radiation protection and by the International Atomic Energy Agency in formulating its Basic Safety Standards for the protection of people and the safety of radiation sources.

With regard to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, Mauritius is now in the process of setting up a Radiation Protection Authority under the Radiation Protection Act 2003, following which consideration will be given to adhering to that Convention.

These are usually in accordance with the recommendations of the International Committee on Radiation Protection (ICRP) and International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU).

The Centre for protection against ionizing radiation of the Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina examines the sources of ionizing radiation.

However, the protection and control of the sources of radiation is also being improved, so it is believed that the risks of exposure to ionizing radiation for persons working on the sources of radiation are reduced.

State medical supervision gives particular attention to the radiation protection of the population living in radiation contaminated areas and to organizing the provision of a complete, free and balanced diet for affected children.

All sources of ionizing radiation and radioactive substances imported and stored in Lithuania as well as exported from Lithuania are recorded on the accounting system that is maintained by the Radiation Protection Centre.

The new Law on Protection from Ionizing Radiation is expected to provide for supervision and minimization of the unnecessary exposure of the population to the widely used sources of ionizing radiation in medicine, industry and research.
