The public sector is generally the largest provider of water services in most countries.

Promoting pro poor policies is important for improving access of the poor to adequate housing and to public services such as water and sanitation services, which require inputs from the public sector.

This includes transport infrastructure, such as roads public transport services public utilities such as water and waste treatment and security and emergency services Capacity building Sustainability issues can be fully covered in the delivery of tourism training and advisory services to enterprises and communities.

Public Services International

Where public utilities are responsible for supplying both water and sanitation services, some of the interdependencies can be addressed, for example, by planning sewage and waste water treatment in consideration of the need for protection of water quality and drinking water sources.

Access to water services has improved nationwide.

Reconstruction should also lead to a revitalized national civil administration capable of providing basic public services such as water, energy, health care, education and infrastructure.

(i) Support to water supply and sanitation services

Emergency infrastructure programmes implemented by UNDP covered a wide range of public services and municipal utilities, schools, hospitals, clinics, roads, sanitation systems and water treatment facilities.

The growth of public private partnerships worldwide has in many countries increased the availability of resources and the efficiency and sustainability of public services in the fields of transport, energy, water, telecommunications, health and education.

Water tariffs have been used extensively for recovering the costs of water infrastructure and services.

Public private partnerships can be used to improve the delivery of basic services, such as energy and water, facilitate access to larger financing opportunities and enhance skills.

Where charges for sanitation services are included in water charges, services for poor households, including sewer connections, could be cross subsidized from progressive water charges.

The quality of American public services has deteriorated steadily over the past few decades, while that of Chinese public services has improved dramatically.

Infrastructure facility means any publicly or privately owned facility providing or distributing services for the benefit of the public, such as water, sewerage, energy, fuel, banking, communications, telecommunications and information networks.

Water supply is combined in a section with some environmental activities and services.

While providing relatively fewer tangible public goods and services directly, the Chinese government will need to provide more intangible public goods and services like rules, standards, and policies.
