Management of strategic deployment stocks

The United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement is of paramount importance, as it strengthens considerably the framework for the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks by regional fisheries management organizations.

The 1995 Fish Stocks Agreement is an essential contribution to the law of the sea as regards the management of straddling and highly migratory fish stocks.

Equally important was the need for more secure management of existing stocks of fissile materials.

The Review Conference of the 1995 United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement will be held next year to evaluate the effectiveness of the Agreement in the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks.

Noting the obligation of all States, pursuant to the provisions of the Convention, to cooperate in the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks,

New Zealand is a strong supporter of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement and urges wide participation in next year's review conference to assess the effectiveness of the Agreement in securing the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks.

Recalling the importance of marine science in promoting the sustainable management of the oceans and seas, including in the assessment, conservation, management and sustainable use of fish stocks,

Recognizing the importance of the Agreement for the conservation and management of straddling fish stocks and highly migratory fish stocks and the need for the regular consideration by the General Assembly of developments relating thereto,

52 women's groups have received training in calculating revenues and profits, in self promotion, and in stocks management.

Increasing the rate at which stocks are delivered above current levels will require modern approaches to material management.

Increasing the speed of delivery of the stocks will require a review of all material management processes and the organizational structure of UNLB.
