The Office of the Executive Director is integrated with that of the Director General and is supported by resources of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Travel planning for staff members of the Office of the Executive Director has been established.

The Office of the Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the development and management of the Centre.

The office of the Director is responsible for the overall operations of the Investment Management Service.

The Office of the Executive Director also assumes technical and managerial responsibility for the implementation of the Executive Forum.

In paragraph 331, the Board recommended that UNICEF establish a travel plan for staff members of the Office of the Executive Director.

14.21 The Office of the Executive Director provides executive and support services to the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director, as well as to the senior management of UNEP.

1.47 The functions of the Office of the Director General are outlined in the Secretary General's bulletin on the organization of the United Nations Office at Vienna (ST SGB 2004 5).

The office of the Director also coordinates the reviews of the internal and external audit functions and ensures the implementation of audit recommendations.

A results based workplan has been developed and is monitored within the UNICEF Office of the Executive Director.

14.22 Included in the Office of the Executive Director are the Programme Coordination and Management Unit, the Evaluation and Oversight Unit and the Office of the Secretariat for Governing Bodies.

While programmes related to the provision of internal support services for the Organization, covered in Major Programmes A, B, G, H and I, have remained largely unchanged from those presented in the programme and budgets for the biennium 2004 2005, the programmes related to the provision of substantive technical and global forum services to the beneficiary States have been substantially altered to fit into the thematic framework selected for Major Programmes C to F.

While maintaining the role of the United Nations Office at Geneva as a centre of international diplomacy, the Office of the Director General is also leading the reform process in line with the priorities of the Secretary General.

The CHAIRPERSON noted that some delegations felt that the text was unnecessarily long. There also appeared to be some confusion in the text between the office and the person of the Director General.

14.19 Executive direction and management is composed of the Office of the Executive Director of UNEP and the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation.

Participating in its work is the Office of the General Coordinator of Ports and Merchant Shipping together with the General Directorate of Ports, the Merchant Navy, the Ports Authority and the Maritime Education Trust Fund (FIDENA).
