This goes beyond corporate philanthropy, abiding by the rule of law and refraining from bad corporate conduct such as employing restrictive or discriminatory business practices.

And I'm hopeful because it's not only philanthropy that's reorganizing itself, it's also whole other portions of the social sector, and of business, that are busy challenging business as usual.

The patterns of charitable donation to foreign countries often have more to do with the salience of news reports than to actual considerations about where the money is most needed.

Perhaps countries should seek to base their social welfare systems on a new synthesis of the state, the family, and philanthropy.

Just so you know, I do believe in missions, I do believe in aid and I do believe in charity. They have their place, but where do they go for those things we talked about earlier?

But if the work does continue, it is on a more modest scale that has settled into the background of public charitable work.
