Owing to the importance of the High level Plenary Meeting, the Head of State of the country of the President of the General Assembly at its fifty ninth session and the Head of State Government of the country of the President of the General Assembly at its sixtieth session will jointly preside over the High level Plenary Meeting.

The President of the Security Council informed the members of the Council that he had received a letter from the President of the General Assembly stating that he had informed the Assembly that the same five candidates had obtained the required majority both in the General Assembly and in the Security Council.

When a candidate has obtained the required majority of votes, I shall communicate the result to the President of the General Assembly, and I shall request the Council to remain in session, pending the receipt from the President of the General Assembly of the result of the voting in the Assembly.

On 13 June 2005, the General Assembly elected its Vice Presidents for the sixtieth session (decision 59 423).
