Procedure in the General Assembly and in the Security Council

Most important, the Assembly has agreed to create a Human Rights Council.

The issue of Security Council reform has been on the agenda of the General Assembly for a very long time.

It is time for the General Assembly to reach a decision on the issue of Security Council expansion.

The General Assembly has to deal with that issue or else the Security Council will continue to do so.

Participants demanded an enhanced role for the General Assembly in following up on the decisions and recommendations of the new Council.

Those candidates who obtain an absolute majority of votes in the General Assembly and in the Security Council shall be considered as elected.

We endorse the proposal for a Human Rights Council that would be directly accountable to the General Assembly.

Between successive sessions of the Assembly, the Council of IMO, who is the governing body meets in regular sessions every six months and performs the functions of the Assembly between successive sessions of the Assembly.

In the same resolution, the General Assembly endorsed the proposals of the Board of Auditors for improving the implementation of the recommendations approved by the Assembly (see para. 2 below), subject to the provision contained in the resolution.

In the Niger, legislative power is vested in an 83 member monocameral National Assembly.

Armenia supports efforts to reform the United Nations, especially those aimed at enhancing and strengthening the role of the General Assembly, creating a Human Rights Council and increasing the effectiveness of the working methods of the Security Council.
