To date, no criminal confiscation proceedings have been instituted on the grounds of financing terrorism.

But we are committed to ensuring that asset freezing is an effective tool in the fight against terrorist financing.

Specific knowledge, competence and expertise building in the field of combating terrorist financing (including typologies of terrorist financing, and methods of tracing and tracking assets), are provided by several kinds of initiatives.

As well as responding to these UN Resolutions by taking action to freeze terrorist assets, the international community has also taken other steps since September 11 to prevent the financing of terrorism.

If banks and financial institutions find it difficult to recapitalize (i.e., issue new equity), it is because investors are uncertain about the value of the assets in their portfolios and do not want to overpay. Will government do better at valuing those assets?

A government sponsored bad bank for private assets is thus a very bad idea.

They may have overvalued some of these assets but the assets are, by and large, still there.

When asset prices move, firms that own these assets are forced to revalue them on their balance sheets quarter by quarter.
