Borders between the Bosniak territory and the Bosnian Serb territory have calmed down.

We welcome the finalization of the demarcation of the boundary between Kuwait and Iraq, which was accomplished by the Iraq Kuwait Boundary Demarcation Commission on 20 May 1993.

This proposal asserted Ethiopia's acceptance in principle of the Delimitation Decision.

A The Commission has no authority to vary the boundary line.

Saint Lucia welcomes the finalization of the demarcation of the boundary between Kuwait and Iraq, which was accomplished by the Iraq Kuwait Boundary Demarcation Commission on 20 May this year.

The European Union stresses the importance of both Nigeria and Cameroon continuing to engage constructively with the United Nations Secretary General and his Special Representative for West Africa to implement their commitment to bring the ongoing negotiations on their border in the area of the Bakassi peninsula to a swift, successful and mutually agreeable conclusion.

However, outstanding issues, such as the demarcation of the land border, remain.

We note with concern that land border demarcation is incomplete.

The sooner demarcation is completed, the better for everyone.

Land border demarcation talks between our two sides have progressed in record time, and have now reached some 96 per cent completion.

The Department will use satellite imagery to prepare boundary demarcation maps in the ongoing Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission and the Cameroon Nigeria preliminary boundary demarcation.

While land border demarcation is important, member States might also be interested to learn of developments in the delimitation of Timor Leste's maritime boundary, on which the report is rather silent.

Ethiopia is committed to dialogue between our two countries for the implementation of demarcation, to achieve normalization and to address all issues that have been at the root of the crisis and which will not go away with demarcation of the boundary only.

There has, accordingly, been no further demarcation activity.

Direction 14A of the Demarcation Directions specifically stated

(a) Iraq apos s rejection of the decisions of the Commission regarding the demarcation of the land boundary

The Boundary Commission has been unable to resume the demarcation process, despite continued efforts to do so.

In February 2002, shortly before the Boundary Commission issued its delimitation decision, the Security Council visited the two countries in order to assure them that it would continue to support the peace process, including demarcation.

In the light of the foregoing, the Commission has adopted the Demarcation Directions set out below.

Recommendations were made for facilitating access across borders, speeding up the process of demarcation of borders and providing compensation to the inhabitants of border areas following their resettlement.

Kuwait further reaffirms that it welcomes the emphasis placed by the Council on the importance of the demarcation of the boundaries for building regional security and peace, on the linkage between that process and international peace and security and on the contribution of the boundary demarcation to ensuring stability and calm in the region.

Another important work that has to be accomplished is the demarcation of the boundary lines.

(b) Iraq apos s failure to participate in the four meetings preceding the above mentioned meeting of the Boundary Demarcation Commission
