Let me now turn to the current developments in my country, Somalia.

Mr. Molyviatis (Greece) Let me begin, Mr. President, by congratulating you upon your election as President of the General Assembly and assure you of my country's unwavering support for your endeavours.

Let me begin by saying, however, that my delegation must disagree with something you said in your introductory remarks that disarmament is at a crossroads.

In a year that marks the fiftieth anniversary of Spain's membership in the United Nations, may I reiterate my country's faithful and firm commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter, to effective multilateralism and to a renewed United Nations.

There are some cluster II issues that we wish to underline, foremost among which is the issue of sanctions regimes. I can speak of sanctions regimes from personal experience, because my country suffered the side effects of sanctions for 13 years and continues to suffer the consequences of those sanctions.

Please allow me to offer, on behalf of my Government and people, our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the Government and people of the United States and to other Governments whose people have been devastated by the ravages and furies of these natural calamities.

Lastly, allow me to again express my delegation's support for the earlier recommendation that the Security Council send a mission to Kosovo either before, during or after the comprehensive review.

It is a choice, I could come to Europe or the US and stay a luxurious life like many other people in this world do or I could stay back in my country and try to contribute to a small change, if I can.

Mr. Nesho (Albania) Allow me at the outset to express my delegation's appreciation to the Secretary General for his report on the activities of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) (S 2005 88).
