The World Conference on Disaster Reduction, which began today in Kobe, Japan, provides an opportunity for all Member States to identify measures to guard against the risk of natural disasters.

In virtually all countries, there is a lack of understanding of the benefits of the use of space technologies in supporting risk reduction and disaster management activities, especially by disaster managers and civil protection agencies.
