We look forward to discussing the factual and detailed questions on perceived non verification, which last year we shared with those who maintained that a verifiable FMCT is impossible.

Let me briefly reiterate Japan's position on one of the outstanding issues in the FMCT mandate, that of verification.

In 1995, by the so called Shannon mandate, the Conference on Disarmament was requested to start negotiation on a verifiable fissile material cut off treaty in the context of an ad hoc committee.
