The meeting included a series of closed sessions followed by an open session with representatives from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and two implementing agencies.

UNFPA has taken an altogether more disciplined approach to reporting and determining appropriate follow up action, which is coordinated by the Division for Human Resources with the support of the Division for Management Services and the Division of Oversight and Services, and reported to the oversight committee.

Treaty bodies are also harmonizing their working methods, in particular with regard to preparation of lists of issues and the adoption of follow up procedures.

The Rapporteur(s) may make such contacts and take such action as appropriate for the due performance of the follow up mandate and report accordingly to the Committee.

Contingency planning tools will need to be continually enhanced to meet the growing challenges faced in the field, particularly in terms of standardizing the application of the planning process, ensuring that follow up actions are carried out, and involving communities and governments.

C. Follow up

The process is also critical for creating the momentum necessary to achieve effective follow up to and implementation of the recommendations which the study will be proposing to the General Assembly for action.

Segment 3 follow up

A technical committee comprised of Government, employers, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and trade unions will ensure that social criteria are considered in follow up procedures and that those procedures benefit development in the local communities.

The Monterrey Consensus and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation set out the process to be followed and the responsibilities that must be assumed if there is to be concerted, comprehensive and consistent action at the national, regional and international levels.

In paragraph 74, UNFPA agreed with the Board's recommendation to intensify follow up action in respect of country offices that consistently fail to comply with the organizational directives regarding nationally executed expenditure audits.

Many departments do not seem to have taken the Government quota seriously probably because follow up measures were weak and departments were not made accountable to reach quota targets within a definite time period.
