When the United States went to war, oil cost less than 25 a barrel, and futures markets expected it to remain there for a decade.

And it is the real interest rate not the money rate that counts for economic growth.

The Fed and the Treasury are walking down a road that ends with making the price of risk in financial markets, along with the price of liquidity, an administered price.

The oil price goes through the floor. That company goes out of business, and then you can bring the oil price back up.

China s exchange rate intervention probably hurts a number of other emerging market exporters that do not intervene as much and are less competitive as a result.

As a result, balance of payments equilibrium would be reached at a certain exchange rate level, but a current account surplus (albeit smaller) would still exist.

Once the monetary rules of the game incorporate the real exchange rate, and assuming that fiscal policy remains supportive, investors can look forward to a less volatile and more competitive currency.
