The new global Evaluation Committee adopted a plan of action to strengthen the evaluation function throughout UNICEF.

Major studies have been completed in this plan period on immunization plus , the African Girls' Education Initiative and external support to basic education (a joint multi donor evaluation).

An internal monitoring and evaluation database management system is being developed to plan and monitor evaluations, track the progress made in the implementation of recommendations and analyse the lessons learned.

It coordinates the corporate work programme by preparing and monitoring the Centre's business plan and by carrying out the key functions of programme and project evaluation, resource mobilization and corporate communication.

The framework of the two year work plan for the GoE includes the evaluation of the state of the art of common benchmarks and indicators systems for monitoring and assessment of desertification, as well as the evaluation and recommendation of guidelines for both short and long term early warning systems.
