Strengthening statistical capacity is therefore essential to supporting the design, monitoring and evaluation of national development plans, including poverty reduction strategies, sector strategies, and the Millennium Development Goals.

In the context of sustainable development, more work is needed to develop a technical analysis of the value of synergies in projects, through the development of indicators for evaluation.

The programme management cycle initiative will also include the development of a proper monitoring, reporting and evaluation function within the Agency.

In addition to producing evaluations on UNHCR's operations worldwide, the Evaluation and Policy Analysis Unit (EPAU) has been working on the development of tools and techniques to enable staff to validate and implement recommendations contained in evaluation reports.

Macro development economists need to recognize the advantages of the experimental approach and adopt the policy mindset of enthusiasts of randomized evaluation.

(ii) Feasibility of establishing mechanisms for the ongoing review, evaluation and analysis of national strategies for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

UNAIDS, in close collaboration with countries, will operationalize a Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Facility to ensure consistent global guidance on technical issues, development of monitoring and evaluation tools, and the timely and transparent flow of information to all partners.

Under the Rules of Business this Ministry's tasks include integrated rural development programmes policy, guidance, follow up action, coordination, foreign assistance and evaluation.
