Organization of Eastern Caribbean States

Anguilla is a member of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, an associate member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, the Association of Caribbean States, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Caribbean Community and Common Market.

In the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), three Caribbean territories are associate members while one is a full member.

In the eastern Caribbean, a regional initiative the Eastern Caribbean Donor Group has been established to support the coordination of external emergency assistance in case of a major natural or technological disaster.

Further, two of the territories under review of the Special Committee share our common Eastern Caribbean currency.

Expanded activities with governments in border improvement systems, particularly in Africa, the Caribbean, Central Asia, Eastern Europe Former Soviet Union, South Asia, South eastern Asia and Oceania.

The Territory is an associate member of CARICOM, whose goal is to promote closer political and economic integration among Caribbean States, and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Settled in 1538, it is the oldest town founded by Europeans in the whole of the Eastern Caribbean.

We favour an increase in seats for Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Latin American and Caribbean States.

Saint Lucia () is a sovereign island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean.

We have a common currency for eight of the eastern Caribbean countries, called the Windward and the Leeward Islands.

In the Eastern Caribbean, this is especially critical since we regard the small territories many of whom are our closest neighbours as integral to the social and economic fabric of the Caribbean.

Antigua and Barbuda, like other members of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, has limited options for trade in a globalized world.

Nor are there any exchange controls, and, although the official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, the United States dollar is commonly used.

The participants recommended that the Special Committee establish closer ties with CARICOM and Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and encouraged Non Self Governing Territories in the Caribbean region to develop closer contacts with the two organizations.

To confirm this commitment, all six of the independent States of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are members of the Special Committee.

In the Eastern Caribbean, UNIFEM is a partner of UNDP in a review of poverty reduction strategy papers, to be presented to Governments in 2005.
