Several scenarios were discussed. If a new Bureau was elected at the start of the thirty eighth session, with a member of the African group as Chair, the same Chair could be re elected at the end of the session or a different Chair could be elected.

Such an election was last held at the nineteenth session for the Vice Chair and at the twentieth session for the Rapporteur.
