Switzerland's most important economic sector is manufacturing.

The industrial sector includes manufacturing, mining, and utilities.

Given this, China must continue to develop its manufacturing sector.

But Europe must do more to reinvigorate its own manufacturing sector.

With respect to foreign trade, the key economic sector is manufacturing.

Why is this? In countries that have traditionally emphasized manufacturing, the underdeveloped service sector is dominated by small enterprises mom and pop stores.

In the service sector, the decline is even worse than in manufacturing, because services are heavily regulated and partially closed to foreign competition.

Employment in the manufacturing sector has tended to increase (as a share of total employment), even in India, with its services driven growth.

There are few, if any, examples of high cost post industrial societies reviving their manufacturing sector on a large scale once it has declined.
